This was my first test in orchestra as a new student at Larson Middle School. I was extremely nervous because the other students had received the piece to review and practice over the summer, while I only had about a week. I was very proud of myself after I had played it for my teacher because I had worked and practiced very hard in the limited time I had in order to be prepared to perform. I did much better than I had anticipated and although I wished had had more time, I was pleased with the result.

The MSBOA Solo & Ensemble is an event where musicians can form groups, or play as individuals, and prepare a piece of music to perform in front of a judge to receive a rating. My partner and I had received a first division rating. Prior to the performance, we had started to prepare months in advance. This performance was a challenge because we needed to read and work out the piece of music on our own, without the constant guidance of our orchestra instructor. I was very proud of myself for being able to interpret and read the music correctly, including the key signature and rhythms. This performance shows that I can accomplish a great deal independently and that I do not always need someone to help me the whole way. I was extremely happy when we got the results, and I really enjoyed performing that piece.

The MSBOA Festival is an event where orchestras from many different schools prepare music to perform in front of a panel of three judges to receive a rating. Our Larson orchestra received a second division rating this year. Everyone was disappointed because we were expecting to get first division rating that year, but we were all still very proud of ourselves for the great performance. It took lot of preparation and hard work. Although we did not receive the rating we would have liked, this made our orchestra determined to get the first division rating next year.
